What Every Business Can Learn From The Ireland Rugby Team
Picture the scene.
The Irish rugby players have spent one month away from home in the high pressure environment of the Rugby World Cup.
A longing for family and home might creep in.
So you can imagine how the players felt when they walked into their hotel bedrooms in Cardiff last week and saw a silver-framed picture of people they love on their desk.
The team captain Paul O’Connell was greeted by a photo of him with his two children on holiday.
This was a small surprise that was organised weeks in advance.
As soon as the Irish squad was announced the Irish Rugby Football Union got in touch with the families of the players to request a photograph that the players would love.
The photo would be a small piece of home away from home.
And a lovely reminder of who they are doing all this for.
Great leaders and great teams do the little things others don’t value as much – and do them well.
On Sunday last Ireland defeated France with a team performance of the highest quality.
The moral of this lovely story:
When you treat your people unbelievably well, they will try unbelievably hard.
